Broom!! Vroooom!

I love this picture, it is so cute, and it has meaning for me!

While building my first trike, my trike builder one day called me a witch. He was just joking around, teasing me.  That is the day I named my trike BROOM!! I so LOVEd riding Broom, until we were hit by a car and my Broom was bent and broken, as was I.

Once I was healed, another trike was created using a new bike and many parts from Broom.... Phoenix was born!! The mythical bird arose from the ashes of it's former self. I have so loved riding Phoenix!! I've had two very wonderful summers full of adventures while riding Phoenix, and I will miss him since I plan to sell him once my new trike is built and ready to ride.

I will soon start work on my new, much larger trike who received his name last night in a group meditation at a dear friend's home, The Ashram. He will be called MoJo.... My "high energy" MoJo will be running throughout the land!! I almost called this new trike Broom 2... but now know he's my MoJo.... my energy.... my passion!!!  I can't start work on MoJo's transformation from bike to trike yet as it is winter and I don't have a heated shop to work in.  I must wait until it is warm enough outside to do the work. Meanwhile, I have work to do in finding parts and pieces to do the job with once the weather is where I need it to be.  When all is done and MoJo is ready to hit the road, there will be an official "Naming Ceremony" for him.

I will always remember and love my first trike, my Broom, and the 2nd one, Phoenix, yet it's time to "Go Big or stay home"!! and I have no intention of staying home!!

Chris's Guitars

My dear friend Chris is a professional musician.  He writes his own music all the time, plays guitar and signs the songs he's written.  I truly love listening to him playing his guitars.  Yes, plural, more than one, several in fact. I've noticed that every one of Chris's guitars are the same, though I suspect they are all tuned differently for different songs he plays.  I don't know what kind of guitars they are, though am sure if Allen and Heath at Guitar Center were to see them, they would know right away what kind they are.  I know enough about guitars to be able to say they are acoustic, though not enough to tell you what brand they are. Whatever they are, I can tell you that they make extremely nice music when Chris Madsen plucks or strums those strings.  It is truly a blessing to sit quietly and listen.

My guitar is not a thing. It is an extension of myself. It is who I am.
~Joan Jett~

An uncle of mine emigrated to Canada and couldn't take his guitar with him.
When I found it in the attic, I'd found a friend for life.

Drumming

Something I often do with my Spiritual Friends is get together for drumming.  We have several different kinds of drums between us as well as things like maracas and a few other things, and Chris often brings his guitar too.  No one brings big drum sets like the Pulse Drums, all are smaller type drums that we can carry easily.  We sometimes meet at a friend's home and often at the local park so other people can come and join in with us, using some of the extra instruments that are brought along for that purpose.  I think they likely got together at the park today, though since I wasn't feeling well I stayed home all day and just now remembered the Sunday Drumming.  I won't make it there next week as I am going away for the weekend, but I am sure I will make it there for the following Sunday.

This day

It is a cool and dull day today, the weather forecast is "Increasing cloudiness early this morning. 60 percent chance of showers this afternoon. High 16." Not exactly a wonderful day for being outside trying to get a suntan, or riding a motorcycle.  However, it still would be a good day to spend in the garden, or even relaxing on an indoor chaise at ChaiseLounges.com, reading a book or watching some good TV programs.  As much as I'd like to have a day in my garden to plant a few more things, or laying around in the house with my cat and a good book, I am off to do other wonderful things.  I will be moving my trike then going to the park to meet friends and do some drumming, then off to my Mom's for a much needed visit.

Spiritual Evening

On Thursday evening I went to a friend's place... affectionately called The Ashram, for a spiritual evening with friends... some I've known for years and some I met that evening. It was a truly awesome evening with singing, dancing, watching a Rev. Micheal Beckwith video, blessing water then drinking some of it, etc etc. Chris Madsen, one of the dear friends, is a very gifted musician and song writer. He makes the guitar sing!! He also has drums of various kinds so we tend to drum there too. Oh, he doesn't exactly have a Gibson Les Paul guitar center in his home, but he does have a good collection of guitars as they are the main tool of his trade. I used to go to a Spiritual Centre every Sunday and most weeks Chris was one of the entertainers, singing spiritual, uplifting songs that he had written himself. For some time I haven't been 'connected' with Chris, life took us in different directions for awhile, as with our dear friend Joan. I am so blessed to be reunited with them both now, sharing Thursday evenings at the Ashram... and this afternoon going to Polson Park to do drumming and chanting. It will be a great day!!

STUCK in an ELEVATOR!!

Well it's been an interesting day today. Among other things, I went to my Dr. appointment and the cel died just as I was going in. (Was only down 1 bar dang battery not good, only a month old). After the appointment I go to leave and the building decided to take me hostage!! Yup, going down 1 floor in elevator and it suddenly stops and nothing happens when I push any buttons. I said to myself "Self, I think we're stuck in the elevator" or something sort of like that. ;o) Thankfully the "Help" button worked and I got to talk to a guy and tell him what was happening and what city I was in, but not the address b'cuz I don't know it. I also told him my Dr.'s name and said to call there and get the address. Anyway, it took awhile but finally 2 repair guys turned up and broke me out of there. First time anything like that ever happened to me. After that I went and did a few hours volunteer work and am now home relaxing with a cat on my chest.

I'm not really sure how long it was... seemed like a long time but could only have been 30 - 45 minutes. Hey, could have been worse, there could have been some weird, smelly, freaky person in there with me. Haha. I sat down and read some ...of what I had been given (info on cholesterol) and then did some meditation, relaxation stuff. I have a mild issue with claustrophobia, but thankfully it didn't rear its ugly head today.

Thanks everyone!! I'm just really grateful this didn't happen to me a couple months ago, before I started 'doing the work' for the PTSD. I was so stressed out and coming apart at the seams that I might well have flipped right out. I was wondering why this happened to me, even when I was sitting there on the floor of the elevator I was wondering (I believe there is always a reason things happen, always something we are to learn) and finally I see what it well may be about. Maybe it's to show me just how far I've come in my healing, how I have returned to my 'pre-trauma' calm self. That makes it something to be grateful for.

Secretariat

This evening I went out to a friend's place for dinner and a very nice visit. Pat & I used to ride horses together several times a week and were very close though now that we no longer have horses in our lives we rarely see each other.  I think it's time to change that and see more of this wonderful woman.  Anyway, we went out to see an incredible movie about one of the most famous race horses in the world... Secretariat. That horse must have been on some mighty potent multivitamin.  Wow, he sure earned his fame & his owner's fortune.

Wikipedia says this and more about this horse:
Secretariat (March 30, 1970 – October 4, 1989) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse , who in 1973 became the first U.S. Triple Crown champion in twenty-five years, setting new race records in two of the three events in the Series—the Kentucky Derby, and the Belmont Stakes — records that still stand today.
Secretariat was sired by Bold Ruler (a grandson of Nearco) and foaled to Somethingroyal. He was foaled at Meadow Farm in Caroline County, Virginia. Like the equally famous horse Man o' War, Secretariat was a large chestnut colt and was given the same nickname, "Big Red."
Owned by Penny Chenery (aka Penny Tweedy), he was trained by Lucien Laurin and mainly ridden by fellow Canadian jockey Ron Turcotte, along with apprentice jockey Paul Feliciano (first two races), and veteran Eddie Maple (last race). He raced in Penny Chenery's Meadow Stable's blue and white checkered colors and his groom was Eddie Sweat. Secretariat stood approximately 16.2 hands (66 inches, 168 cm) tall, and weighed 1,175 pounds (533 kg), with a 75 inch girth, in his racing prime.

If you like horses at all I highly recommend this movie.  I would see it again.

Oneness in Action

Below you will find an email I received today and thought a lot of people would benefit by reading.

Dear Team Mates,

We are now fully in fall season. I’m wishing all of you a Happy and Marvelous Thanksgiving Day! Why not using this special day to make a list of all your blessings……read your list regularly, focus on it everyday, it is the best way to have them produce more blessings!

Humanity’s Team World Wide, is announcing that Sunday, October 24th they will celebrate the First Global Oneness Day. Although UNO did not yet confirm this declaration, we want to start to Celebrate! We know that around the world there is 50,000 peoples that want to join us…they have already signed our petition! We won’t stop there!….We are still adding names with a goal of 100,000 signatures!……If you did not sign yet, please sign it now, and ask your friends and family to do the same. …..we want to demonstrate that Humanity is willing to focus on similarities instead of differences!

For this first Global Oneness Day, let us all do a little good for someone else…Bring a plate to someone living alone……pay the coffee for the  person following you at your Tim Horton car service, keep the door open for a young mother struggling with her stroller, smile to a perfect stranger, compliment a colleague……the list could be very long….. Just a little gesture could make a huge difference! With 2500 Humanity’s Team Mates in Canada we could make life just a little bit better and make a difference to someone’s life.

If you have more suggestions for this Celebration feel free to write! We will share it with all members! We could also post your pictures of how you did Celebrate on our website!

I’m wishing you an outstanding Celebration!   WE ARE ALL ONE

Crashed Trike

One week ago yesterday I was in a Motor Vehicle Accident & my trike was totaled.  I was driving through town (smallish city), just returning from a most wonderful ride on my trike.  I am going to copy/paste part of something I wrote to my fellow members/friends of the BC Classic Motorcycle Club.

On Friday I went for a beautiful ride to Westbank.  My friend Tuggy was going down to visit Gloria, ex-wife #2 and still a good friend.  He invited me to ride along & meet Glo.  He was hoping to take her for her last ride.  Glo used to ride her own very nice bike... now she has ALS, a nasty disease that will take her life, yet she is still so possitive & upbeat... a lady to truly admire.  Glo had an awesome pair of custom made chaps.  They fit me perfectly & she gave them to me.  What an awesome gift for which I am so grateful.

After having lunch with Glo, Tuggy (drove a tug boat for many years, thus the name) & I left there about 3pm, stopped @ Princess Auto for a couple minutes then headed home.  Got to our city and as we came down hospital hill I was in the lead. We were north bound, lots of other traffic around, but the immediate lane in front of me was clear.... then it wasn't.  A blue car heading south made a left turn right in front of me.  There was no chance to stop.  I T-boned her, then flew off the trike hitting the car with my body.  The next moment of awareness, I was on the ground holding my left wrist, knowing it was broken.  I saw one of the trike mirrors laying not far away & glass (from the car?? did my body break the passenger side windows??).  I looked up & saw another car at the stop sign with damage to the driver's door. The blue car that caused all the trouble was stopped a ways down the side street & the slim blond was walking back, saying "I'm sorry. I'm sorry."  My "inner biker" came out to protect me and said some not very pretty F-words to her.
(I would now kind of like to apologize  for being 'nasty', tho at the time it was some kind of survival mechanism kicking in.)

Several real nice people stopped to look after me, then firemen came... ambulance... cops.  A fireman went to check my helmet that had by this time been taken off me... to see what head trauma there may have been.  Later Tug told me a cop also checked my helmet... for DOT
(Department Of Transport approved).  Good thing I bought a good new DOT helmet this spring.

I was taken to Hospital by ambulance.  They had hoped to get me into the OR Friday night but got a bigger emergency in so I had surgery about 10am Saturday.  They had to reconstruct my left wrist, putting in a metal plate & 9 screws to hold it all together.  Dang, I can think of better ways for a gal to get new jewelry!!!  I was released from hospital sometime around 11am today
(Sunday).

Yes, I was paying attention to my riding, not to men's running shorts or short men running or men running in shorts or any other scenario, and still I had no time to do anything but hit her.

I know I am blessed to be alive and with just a shattered wrist.

daily GOOD

Day 30

I have always held firmly to the thought that each one of us can do a little to bring some portion of misery to an end. --Albert Schweitzer

Fact of the Day:
"My cousin Heidi was stricken around age 16 with a debilitating disease, which took her life about 20 years later. As the disease progressed, she became wheelchair bound and unable to easily communicate (I'm not sure of the disease -- it may have been a combination, including Parkinson's).When she was in her late 20's, she would often have her mother take her out into the front yard when the weather was nice so that she could sit in her wheelchair and watch the cars pass by. One day, my aunt was doing dishes and looked out the window to see a car pulled to the side of the road." What happened next was a brief and beautiful exchange that the author of this real-life story would never forget. [ more ]

daily GOOD

Day 26

Daily Good News: a service of CharityFocus

I think everybody should just turn off their TV machines and make up their own songs about whatever comes to mind-their couch, their friends their loaves of bread. Everybody's got their own songs. There should be so many songs out there that it all turns into one big sound and we can put the whole thing into a pickup truck and let it roll off the edge of the Grand Canyon. --Beck Hansen

Fact of the Day:
Happy people spend a lot of time socializing, going to church and reading newspapers -- but they don't spend a lot of time watching television, a new study finds. That's what unhappy people do. Although people who describe themselves as happy enjoy watching television, it turns out to be the single activity they engage in less often than unhappy people, said John Robinson, a professor of sociology at the University of Maryland. Light Mail

Day 25

Daily Inspiration: I am happy and content because I think I am. ~Alain-Rene Lesage

Today’s Affirmation: I savour this sweetness in my heart and share its magic with the world.

Today's Contemplation: Every person’s natural state is joy. When we release our attachments we find ourselves in a state of joy. All things naturally rise to their level of buoyancy; all we need to do is let go.

Light Mail

Day 24

Daily Inspiration: Inner sunshine warms not only the heart of the owner, but all who come in contact with it. ~J.T. Fields

Today’s Affirmation: I let my love warm the hearts of all I meet.

Today's Contemplation: Often we think of love as something we can give to some while withholding from others; love is who we are we either give it freely or withhold it from all. My relationship with my barber is no less loving than my relationship with my spouse, it is far less intimate and far less personal however it is no less loving or compassionate.
