New Nest

Hello, Friday Parrotlet here.

Just wanted to tell you of the happenings here of late. Today our human slave changed our home. She put us into a clean green cage that was much more conducive to attaching a nest box than was our previous white cage. They are both about the same size, so no big deal to Miracle & I. The biggest difference is that the old one had a flat top and this is a dome top, makes no never mind to us. The slave's friend Drew made 2 wooden nest boxes and today she, the slave, cut a hole in the side for us to go in and out and hung it on this 'new' cage. She also put some pine shavings into it for nesting material. You see, the other day she noticed Miracle & I 'consummating' our relationship, so to speak, and decided to make sure we have a nest box just in case some eggs came of it. I know she wants more of us Parrotlets to look after, or as she calls it, some grand birds. Who knows, maybe one day this spring we will be posting baby announcements.

Bird Talk

Hi. This is the wonderfully handsome blue Pacific Parrotlet, Friday!! It has been awhile since I last wrote here, though due to the dog having a sore foot and not able to type so well, I thought I'd take a turn dancing on the keys. All is going very well with life here. My wife Miracle & I live in a comfortable cage in the master bedroom where the woman sleeps. The woman likes to have all us animals call her Mom for some reason. So, Mom sleeps in this room and on the bed with her sleeps the cat, Mewsic... on the floor at the foot of the bed, real close to our cage, is the dog, Reba. We all get along just fine as these two larger animals do not bother us at all. My dear, beloved Miracle had considered sending away for some cheap adipex to give to DW, the big nasty parrot that lives in the other room. Some months ago now, DW came to our cage when she was out free of her cage. She came way too close to our home, so a fight ensued through the bars and being Parrotlets, we do not back down just because of a size difference. Well, Miracle ended up loosing more than half her beak in the fray. The next day, we managed to get out of our cage and go to DW's. She had been taken away before we had time to complete the fight, and put into her cage, so we went to finish things off. This ended in Miracle getting 2 toes bitten badly and later falling off where the bite was. She still has enough to be safe on the perches, so it could have been worse. After that, Mom moved us into this room to keep us apart from DW. Miracle still thinks we should give her something that would shrink her down to our size so we can even the score. Miracle's beak is almost grown back now, though still looks a little odd. I love her anyway.

Bird Bits

- Birds need more than just seeds in their diet.
- Birds like to eat fresh veggies & fruit... these are good for us.
- Birds don't get zits so don't use treatment for acne.
- Birds don't need to use shampoos or skin care products either.
- Birds do, however, like to take bathes, or at least some birds do. Some even like to shower.
- Sometimes birds like to get out of their cages & fly around the house. This is fun for the bird(s) and usually for the humans too... however, it can be very dangerous to the birds, so please make sure it's going to be safe for us to do this.
- Birds that tweet, twitter, sing make their humans feel calmer & less stressed, so long as the bird does this quietly as us Parrotlets always do. We are not like Bubba the 'tiel in the other room.

'Tiel Talk

Hello. It's not Reba this time... it's Billy Bob, one of the young male cockatiels that live here as well. I am weary of sharing my cage with Bubba because Bubba is a bully!! Yes, he most definitely is that. Oh, he is also a young male 'tiel, by the way. When we came to live here we were in a large steel cage with Angel & Stud Muffin, then were moved into a smaller cage due to the fact that it was all that was available at the time and our new "Mom", as this human seems to enjoy being called, wanted to give Angel & Stud Muffin privacy so that when they are ready they can start giving her some "grand birds". Also, well.... us young studs wanted to have Angel as our mate, therefore we kept trying to talk her into dumping S.M. for one of us. So now we each require our own living quarters and our own mates. I suppose we must locate the best web directory for birds and bird related items. Or maybe we will find something on Kijiji one day soon. That is where we were advertised when Mom found us and gave us a new home.

This is a photograph of the most beautiful Angel... and me in the background, working my way ever closer to my lady love, to no avail.

The one sitting on the yellow feeder is Stud Muffin, Angel's mate. The other one, with the yellow & orange, is Bubba.

Twittering - An Introduction

Hi. My name is Friday. I think it's time for you to hear another view of life... and the dog is outside for a quick poop before bed. Oh, I know that, being a bird, I should be long since asleep by this time, but someone left the lights on in here so I am wide awake and thought I'd introduce myself and tell you a bit about myself.

I am a Pacific Parrotlet. Parrotlets are usually under 5 inches long and weigh around 30 grams or less. I am no exception to this. We used to be bigger, and our Amazon cousins still are big... but you see, once upon a time a very long time ago, some on our ancestors got into doing weight loss supplements and they over did it somewhat. Now we are this tiny... but we still have all the BIG birdinality that our family ever had. In fact, we are often referred to as "the tiny parrot with the big personality" or " big personalities in tiny packages" and other such silly names.

Parrotlets make good pets, especially if you have just one of us. We bond real good to our people if they treat us good and with love. We tend to be very protective of our homes and bite if you put your hand into our cage, then we are nice & friendly once we are out of the cage.

People now days are all excited about Twitter... well, I'm telling you, we birds started Twitter literally centuries ago. Nothing new there!! Just took humans a long time to catch on, and now they're all atwitter about it. Go figure.

I just about fell off the computer as I fell asleep. Think I'd better fly now. See you later.
