Know What You're Talking About

I am one that believes you should become informed about things before you talk about them or use them.  For this reason, I tend to do a lot of research and most of that is done online.  For example, if you want to talk about riding a motorcycle you should have experience riding one -unless you are just asking questions about it... if you want to take a drug or supplement, you should know what you are taking - if you take apidextra, know the apidextra side effects and if you are going to build a trike, know how to build a proper and safe one -I know someone who brags about how great he is at building trikes, yet isn't.  Yesterday I was at a friend's place and we were sitting outside in the sunshine and watching wild animals in the field right beside us. We agreed the cock pheasant was a cock pheasant, the birds were birds, etc., but we disagreed on one thing... he said they're gophers and I say they are marmots. He got a bit rude with the way he spoke to me, something that has been happening a bit lately and I do not appreciate so soon will deal with it if he doesn't notice that I don't stick around when he starts talking like that.  Anyway, so tonight I researched online and though I can not find proof to rule out gophers, I did find a lot on Yellow Bellied Marmots in this area. One thing he doesn't realize is that I don't generally talk about things that I have no knowledge on, and for sure don't argue about it unless I am sure!!

More Trike Makeover

Today I drove to Kelowna. It was a beautiful, sunshiny day that was comfortably warm without being too hot. The reason I went was for the Polished Aluminum Checker Plate for the box being built for my trike. My friend Frank had made arrangements for the purchase of this metal and had even gotten it cut to approximately what we need it to be, into handle-able pieces to be worked with. The company he got the material from is right across the street from a friend of his that has a huge saw that worked fairly well for making the cuts, so Frank had the metal taken across the street and cut, he even had bought beer for the guys for doing the cutting. I had to go pick up the sheets, go across and pay for it, then take it and Frank over to his shop where we unloaded the checker plate. I got to see the big machine he will be using to bend the material, thereby making rounded corners for the box.  When out in the sunshine this stuff is so shiny and bright that it hurts the eyes to look at it.  This trike is really going to be awesome!!

Trike Makeover Progressing

Today I bought the paint and supplies for my trike paint job. I got Laser Blue Candy paint (more or less a Turquoise), the base will be Cosmo Dust (sparkly silver).

Tomorrow I go to Kelowna to buy the polished aluminum Checker Plate for the box.

Saturday Ray is going to Kamloops and will take my seat (cut down from double to solo) to a guy he knows to get it recovered. This is all costing more than I had planned... sure hope it's not going to come to more than I have. Oh well, I'm sure it will all work just right. It is going to be awesome when it's done. They are doing a lot more than what I had originally thought/visioned being done... and it is going to be AWESOME!!!

Yes, the Trike Makeover is progressing very nicely.

Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Diabetes, Deteriorated Disc Disease, Arthritis.... just some of what I live with every day of my life. Well, I can sit here and feel sorry for myself as I live with the pain, or I can take responsibility for my life and make some changes so I can enjoy it again. Yes, I decided to make changes. My Garden Adventures

A friend of mine at the Food Bank where I work told me this winter that they have had great success growing vegetables with a Lasagna Garden. After looking on the internet, doing research on this form of gardening, I decided to give it a try.

Today I was in town so bought some plants while at the grocery store. I got Kale, Marigolds and Irish Moss. I came home and did a bunch of work in the yard, including:
- prepared a raised bed garden for planting... cleaned it up from last year. Planted the Kale plants in that raised bed garden.
- worked more on making my Lasagna Garden. I brought a fairly decayed bale of straw over from where it was in another part of the yard and dumped it out of the wheelbarrow. Took the wheelbarrow over to the compost pile on the other side of the yard, filled it with partially decayed compost, brought it over and spread it on what I already had made of the Lasagna Garden from another day (branches, old boards, old cardboard, etc.). Spread some of the straw over the compost layer.
- cleaned up the Iris plants, removing last year's, now dead, leaves & flower stalks and putting them onto the Lasagna Garden.
- cleaned up the last year's, now dead, growth from herbs, from Lavender, from Tomatoes, etc. and again put it all onto the Lasagna Garden.
- stood up the toilet that had fallen during the winter, made sure it won't fall again, planted some of the Marigold flowers into the tank and the bowl of the toilet. Put the rest of the Marigold plants into some dirt to protect them until I am ready to plant them elsewhere, not sure yet where that will be.
- decided to extend the Lasagna Garden a couple more feet, right to touching the stacked tires which are planters, so found a couple more bits of wood to use as frames for the bed, also packed some bricks over to fill in a gap. Still need to find a bit more to finish off the frame extension then will put down thick layers of newspapers and start putting layers of compost, straw, old wood bits, etc in that end too.

Now, after all that work, my body hurts rather badly... and yet I feel good about having done all of the above. I actually didn't want to come in, but knew I had to.

I am so grateful that I have a yard and that I can grow my own vegetables, herbs and fruit. I know that I am blessed.

CBC

In my truck I like to listen to the radio while I drive, however, I don't care for the music they play on the 2 local radio stations.  In my old truck I was able to pick up an 'oldie' station from Kelowna that I really enjoyed listening to, but in my new truck the radio won't pick up that station. What I end up listening to all the time is CVC Radio (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation).  On TV I watch a variety of stations and some are CBC TV.  I was really amazed today when I read on the internet that there is a CBC Los Angeles!!  WHAT?!?!  Los Angeles is not in Canada, so what's with the CBC being there?? Well, there are many companies in Canada that are owned by American companies, so I guess maybe this is that same kind of thing, just in reverse. It's amazing what you see on the internet!!

A Good Day Planned

Dan and I have been friends for around 11 years now. For the last 5 months he has been working in a different province as there is no work for him in our home province.  We do talk often on MSN though that is just not the same as seeing a friend in person.  He is currently home for a funeral so I saw him on Sunday for awhile and expect him to be here any time now for another visit today.  It's good to see him in person and I look forward to when construction picks up in BC so he can come back  home to work as I know he really wants to do.

Though there is much cloud in the sky, the sun is brightly shining through.  My stove went out at some point during the night as I didn't put another bag of pellets into it.  It is warm enough in here that I won't relight the stove until later this evening.  I love it when I get to go without the stove on, it means warm weather. I am going to have something to eat then out I go to work in my yard for awhile.

Time to Garden

I was just looking at the weather forecast for tomorrow and the rest of this week.  Tomorrow I have time to stay home all day and was planning to do some outside work.  I want to plant some vegetable seeds that require cool weather to do their best.  I also want to move some bricks and make a couple raised bed gardens with them.  I got 4 bales of old hay given to me recently and I plan to use them to try my hand at making Lasagna Gardens, having been told about them by a friend where I do volunteer work, and I read several articles on How To here on the internet. If interested, just Google "Lasagna Gardens" and you will find a lot of info on it.  I was really hoping that tomorrow would be a warm and sunny Tuesday, and unfortunately, it is forecast to be raining while the rest of the week is looking much dryer and I am going to be busy with other things.  Figures!! Maybe my body needs an extra day or 4 after the Chiropractor treatment I just had before I go doing heavy work involving bending, so I guess the rain could be a good thing.  At least I will go out and plant the seeds I have waiting on the table.

Looking For A Bird

Today I was browsing the For Sale Ads on the internet.  I saw things like dogs for sale, cats for sale, lots of different birds for sale, strangely, even bobcats for sale... (okay, so I'm being funny here, this kind of bobcat is the machine, not the animal).  I saw lots of things for sale, yet I didn't see what I was actually looking for.  You know how it can be on the internet, you Google something and it sometimes brings up lots and lots of things that you weren't actually wanting, or sometimes it brings up lots and lots of what you were wanting depending on the day.  Anyway, I am thinking again about getting a male Indian Ringneck Parrot/Parakeet. My female, DW really wants a male and I would love to get her one... or  at least I think I would, lol. Raising baby birds would be a lot of work and commitment, and they would be so sweet and wonderful.  I'm not sure I'm up to the work and commitment at this time, but hey, it doesn't hurt to browse the ads and see what is out there.

Musing About My Day

Today I put in 2 hours or so doing inventory at Ray's.  I actually really get into doing it and don't want to stop and leave.  I feel like I'm doing something important and valuable.  Oddly enough, this is somewhat like when I did crafts and wrote poetry, I couldn't stop until it was all done.  Hmmmmm... now that's something to think about.  I haven't done crafts for several years and I used to so love the creativity of it, and it's been too long since I've had the poems come to me so I could write them down. I found myself thinking I maybe need to 'inventory' my house to get it cleaned up, after all, I am enjoying organizing all the parts and supplies at the shop.  While I was there, Ray showed me a set of leaf springs, 25 1/2 inches, that he got at the auto wrecker, for FREE, and will use on my trike.  Until now it's had no suspension, it's 'hard tail' and this will make it so much nicer to ride!! Anyway, I had to leave Ray's shop as I had a Chiropractor appointment to go to again today.  I depend on these treatments to help me function in life with less pain than I otherwise would have.

Inventory

Blade Bolt... find number, write, count, catalog, put into appropriate box.
Gasket - tank... find number, write, count, catalog, put into appropriate box.
Lag screw... find number, write, count, catalog, put into appropriate box.
Gasket - Oil Seal... find number, write, count, catalog, put into appropriate box.

On and on it goes.  This is what doing inventory involves.  You pick up a part, find it's number on the package if it's in a package, find the number in the many pages long list of parts, and write down how many of them you found in this particular box. If you find more in another box you add the number to this number for a total. It is time consuming work and most people find it rather boring, though I actually don't mind it.  I am about to go over to Ray's now and continue my job of inventorying all his parts and supplies in his shop. It's a big job, this will be day 3 of my being there doing this.

It's a fairly cloudy day, though also reasonably warm, though inside Ray's shop it can be very chilly, so I will wear warm clothes and drink lots of hot tea while I work.

Watch Out For Bikers!!!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
