Day 30

I have always held firmly to the thought that each one of us can do a little to bring some portion of misery to an end. --Albert Schweitzer

Fact of the Day:
"My cousin Heidi was stricken around age 16 with a debilitating disease, which took her life about 20 years later. As the disease progressed, she became wheelchair bound and unable to easily communicate (I'm not sure of the disease -- it may have been a combination, including Parkinson's).When she was in her late 20's, she would often have her mother take her out into the front yard when the weather was nice so that she could sit in her wheelchair and watch the cars pass by. One day, my aunt was doing dishes and looked out the window to see a car pulled to the side of the road." What happened next was a brief and beautiful exchange that the author of this real-life story would never forget. [ more ]

Daily Good News: a service of CharityFocus

I think everybody should just turn off their TV machines and make up their own songs about whatever comes to mind-their couch, their friends their loaves of bread. Everybody's got their own songs. There should be so many songs out there that it all turns into one big sound and we can put the whole thing into a pickup truck and let it roll off the edge of the Grand Canyon. --Beck Hansen

Fact of the Day:
Happy people spend a lot of time socializing, going to church and reading newspapers -- but they don't spend a lot of time watching television, a new study finds. That's what unhappy people do. Although people who describe themselves as happy enjoy watching television, it turns out to be the single activity they engage in less often than unhappy people, said John Robinson, a professor of sociology at the University of Maryland. Today’s Affirmation: I let my love warm the hearts of all I meet.

Today's Contemplation: Often we think of love as something we can give to some while withholding from others; love is who we are we either give it freely or withhold it from all. My relationship with my barber is no less loving than my relationship with my spouse, it is far less intimate and far less personal however it is no less loving or compassionate.

I can forgive, but I cannot forget, is only another way of saying, I will not forgive. Forgiveness ought to be like a cancelled note - torn in two, and burned up, so that it never can be shown against one.

There is not a more pleasing exercise of the mind than gratitude. It is accompanied with such an inward satisfaction that the duty is sufficiently rewarded by the performance.

Day 21

Maybe we should develop a Crayola bomb as our next secret weapon. A happiness weapon. A beauty bomb. And every time a crisis developed, we would launch one. It would explode high in the air - explode softly - and send thousands, millions, of little parachutes into the air. Floating down to earth - boxes of Crayolas. And we wouldn't go cheap, either - not little boxes of eight. Boxes of sixty-four, with the sharpener built right in. With silver and gold and copper, magenta and peach and lime, amber and umber and all the rest. And people would smile and get a little funny look on their faces and cover the world with imagination.

-- Robert Fulghum --

There is one armor that the world of men and women, as a world, has never yet put on. The churches have long bungled with its fastenings, but the world has gone unfended, and few have been those in whose hands the mystical sword of the spirit has shone with daily use. This armor, waiting to be worn, is the armor of brotherhood and sacrifice, the world of unselfishness, a conquering sword, with the power, where used, to unite the world in love. And there are none who may not put it on.

Whoof!! So, how are you folks today. I've been missing you lately. You must all be very busy. That seems to be going around lately. Bark.

I sure am glad I have a nice fur coat to wear every day, all day. It's getting cold where I live and I can't always stay inside the house where it's warm. I am happy that I get to live in the house a lot of the time, though.

I hope we get to go to the dog park tomorrow. Mom took me there a couple days ago and I sure liked having my walk again. I could go there every day if I had the chance. Some of the dogs I see there are so over weight that it must be unhealthy fur them. I sure am happy I still have my puppyish figure. I guess that's cuz I am a very active dog and get lots of exercise. My "Mom 'Bean" said I will never need Lipovox to help me burn fat like some people do. I would get more exercise right here at home if Mom would quit yelling at me when I start to chace the cat. Arf, arf, arf. Whoof!

More Peace Fur You!!

Day 16

Whoof!! A walk in the park today makes me feel much more peaceful inside. I was all full of energy and it just kept bubbling out all over the place. Now I got rid of some of that energy so I can lay on the floor by Mom's chair and rest instead of bouncing all over the place. I feel so peaceful.

Here are some more peace quotes fur you. Maybe they are having an effect on this ol' dog... arf, arf, arf.

Peace is its own reward.

-- Mahatma Gandhi --

Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the ability to cope with it

-- Unknown --

Look what I found and got Mom to help me get it fur showing to you. It was in an ad on one of the "Peace Quotes" sites I was visiting. It's a Peace Watch!!! I like that, WOOF!!

Watch Fur Peace

I sure would like to give one of these to my Mom 'Bean, arf. She would so love to have one cuz she believes "its' Time Fur Peace". The peace sign is even done in crystals and Mom likes sparkly stuff.

Peace to all of you!!

A Dog's Day

On Thursday, Mom & I went to the dog park. It was a nice day fur a good walk cuz it wasn't raining, and there was some sunshine and that always makes Mom happy. As always, I had a great time there visiting woof all my friends, and new friends too... hooman and dog friends alike. There was one old gal there that was old and overweight, moving real slow. I think she could use a good diet pill woof her walks, arf arf.

Mom locked up her parrot tonight. Usually DW used to stay on the top of her cage so got to be outside of it all day, but now she keeps flying around. Mostly just over to the chinchilla cages, and then chews the wall paper over there. Maybe cuz she likes the company of the other critters, or maybe cuz her cage is too far from the wall now and the chin cages are close to the walls. Today she flew off her cage and landed on Mom's head when she was sitting on her chair, Mom thought that was real nice. Then the crazy parrot flew off Mom and over to the chinchillas again. Mom leaves her there awhile then goes and gets her but after eating, the flight back there is made again. So, DW got locked up. Mom & DW are both unhappy about this 'lock down' situation, though.

I spent most of the day today outside in my dog run and my dog house. I am happy to be in the house now woof Mom, the warm stove, and even the other critters. Whoof!!!

Peaceful Parrot?

Day 12

Here are some piktures of DW, Mom's parrot. This is her new "Play Land" Mom made fur her to keep her out of trouble so have more peace around here. She gets up onto that piece of wood and chews it all up, ripping chunks out of the branch. She sure works hard on that, but then she flys over to the chinchilla cages on the other side of the room to cause trouble over there sometimes. Earlier today she was having a bit of a fight woof one of the chinchillas through the wires of the cage. Mom heard either Daisy or Sheri spitting, that's the closest I can come to describing that chinchilla sound, so she looked over and there was DW on the cage side and Mom saw a chin move away, but couldn't tell which one and there are 2 living in that cage.

Please... pray fur peace!!
We need it.

Mom Might Travel

Yesterday Mom's friend Mike phoned her. He's the guy she goes to the Omak Stampede woof every August and leaves me home alone woof Dan checking in on my and the other critters. Well, he told Mom that his boss bought a big truck in Florida and wants him to go there and bring it home fur him. Mike is gonna ask his boss if he'll pay fur Mom to go woof him. She's never done much traveling and never went very far by hooman standards, so she really wants to go. She was thinking about all the things that are happening right now and make this a real bad time to go away, then at class tonight Rev. Dale said something, I don't know what it was, but it made Mom think that she has to stop thinking about reasons not to go and start thinking about reasons why she can go... start thinking that everything will work out fur her to be able to go on this "once in a life time" holiday. I asked Mom if she's going to be able to go visit my cousing Denny and his son Dustin (Mom's sister's son & grandson) where they live now in Mississippi, but she said no that would be out of the way from where Mike plans to drive on the way home. So then I asked if she'd be going to las vegas nv (I saw it on TV, arf arf) and she said no, they won't likely be that far north when coming by NV. She doesn't know fur sure, but thinks they would go from AZ to CA, then head north back to Canada. Guess now we just have to wait 'til Mike calls Mom woof more information. His boss gets back tomorrow so Mike should learn lots more then.

Nov 11, 2008

Peace... finally

There is more peace in our home again now. Thanks to Quilly and her OC fur giving me some info on parrots to pass on to Mom. She had already done most of what was suggested, but it sure was nice fur her to hear that she was on the right path to peace woof the silly parrot. Mom hung a big piece of wood above DW's cage, and hung some 'toys' on it, rope, parrot toy, leather stip... and she moved the cage out several inches from the wall. Also attached a chop stick to the side of the cage. DW has been very busy chewing on the wood. Mom found another small piece of wood today and put it through bars in the cage so it sticks out fur DW to sit on and chew at too. Mom figures that maybe being bad was cuz of being bored, so is trying to give her stuff to do that will take her lil bird brain off the wall paper and mirror frame that she likes to chew on. Early this evening DW did fly over to the chinchilla cages and hung out there fur awhile, then when Mom went to get her she wasn't happy and flew off into the kitchen, but then she let Mom catch her. She sat on Mom's arm for the walk back to the cage and she got a peanut fur a treat fur being a good bird. Ya right, Whoof! some good bird.

It sure is nice to have peace in our home again, and no more 'earth quakes' that cause DW's cage to shake a bunch every time she chews on the mirror or wall.

Peace and Lack Of It

"In the goodness of time, all peoples will come to live together in a peace guaranteed by the binding force of mutual respect and love."

-- Dwight D. Eisenhower --

The thing I would like to do most is to find somehow to bring peace to the world. It has eluded me.

-- Lyndon Baines Johnson

We must shift the arms race into a 'peace race'.
-- Martin Luther King, Jr. --

Whooof!! That peace race is one race this dog would like to run in. I've never run a race, but I would run in that one. Today Mom took me to the dog park fur a nice walk and to play woof my doggy friends. There were 2 dogs that live together and they run together and it looks like they're racing all the time. They both fun full out, fast as they can, streaking across the feild. It was kinda fun to watch. If I was younger maybe I would've raced 'em. Arf, arf.

Mom's parrot, DW, is being very bad lately. She's ripped wallpaper off the wall in several places, and she she keeps chewing 5h3 2ooe q4oune the mirror on the livingroom wall. Mom is not happy and keeps trying to find a way to stop her from doing this bad stuff, but so far the only thing that works fur any time at all is locking the feathery fiend into her cage. However, then DW starts to shreek some and that's not a nice sound and no one here feels peaceful when that is going on. We sure would like some good ideas on how to stop her from doing this damage.

NoBloPoMo - Peace - Day 8

ImageChef Sketchpad -

I admit it has been a bit stressful between species here since Mom 'Bean got the new cat, Mewsic, at the start of August, so that's like 3 months now. I will be 10 years old December 14, so am a bit old fur making changes, though I like to believe that if the cat was nice to me I 'd be nice to her, and if she didn't run from me I wouldn't chase her. To me, chasing her is a game, not something I do to try to hurt her. Woof Shadow, I would chase and he'd run, but in all the years we were together I never caught him, and when he was on Mom's bed it was his safe place and sometimes he'd let me sniff him and give him a lick. If he didn't run from me, I didn't chase him. Mewsic always spits and yowls at me then runs away like either she wants to play or she's scared of me. Mom gives me heck if I chase her cats.

I know that sometimes in the day when I'm outside in my dog run, Mom and Mewsic nap together, and other than that Mewsic doesn't come into the bedroom cuz I sleep in there, so she's scared. I'm sure the fact that I've chased her out of there and barked at her has nothing to do woof that. Anyway, night before last, in the middle of the night, when I was sleeping, the cat sneeked in and slept all the rest of that night woof Mom on the bed. She went to do that again last night, and I put a stop to that. Arf!

However, we are making some progress towards peace. I think that in time, if I live that long and I'm not going anywhere soon, we might actually get along. Mom would like that a lot. We have made Mom real happy a few times, like woof Mewsic sitting on the chair woof Mom when I'm laying on the floor beside them. Mewsic starts to get scared like she's gonna run, and Mom puts her hand on Mewsic and stops me from getting my head too close to the silly cat, and then we all settle down and relax. Them Mom's happy. And she was real happy when the cat slept woof her that night. Maybe I'll allow it to happen again soon.

Panting Fur Peace

ImageChef Sketchpad -

All day today I have been thinking about Peace, and about BlogBlast fur Peace, and of course, about NoBloPoMo, and I must be truthful and tell you that mostly I've been thinking about doggy cookies. Arf. Being a dog, I depend on my Mom 'Bean to do the typing fur me cuz my big Rottweiler paws just don't work well on this little laptop keyboard. If I did my own typing, it would look something like this: afjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjctn9woruuuuuuuuuu uuuuuaewldsxcvk:ldsc fljdskfe wy [ and then none of us could read it, so I get Mom to do it. My Mom 'Bean is a very busy woman and so it sometimes takes a bit longer than either of us want it to fur her to get to doing my typing, but she does do it exactly how I aske her to, so it's all good.

Today is a day when people all over the world are blogging fur Peace. Mom & I decided to blog fur peace every day this month. Who knows, we might even blog fur peace longer than that.

I am a very peaceful dog. Well, now, fur full discloser, I gotta tell you that I am very hyper fur my age and breed, I'm almost always running around and sometimes jumping up and such, but that's just being hyper, not being unpeaceful. Lots of people at my favorite dog park comment on me and guess me to be about 2 years old or so, and I'll be 10 years old December 14. I just feel good and love to run and play.

At my dog park, most of the dogs I've met are friendly and peaceful, just liking to run and play together. That's so cool cuz that's what I want fur my life. I am proud to say I have never started a fight. There are a couple times other dogs tried to start fights woof me, and I had to protect myself, but even then I didn't do anything more than I had to. I didn't really fight back, just got away from them without tucking tail and running. Well, I couldn't do that even if I wanted to cuz I don't got a tail to tuck, it was cut off real short when I was only a couple days old, before I was adopted by my Mom 'Bean. Anyway, I am a peaceful dog.

I find that most of the dogs at the dog park are very friendly and peaceful. They don't say "Hey, yur a Rottweiler. YUCK!" or "hey, yur only a little ShitSue, go away" or anything like that. No one says "we hate you cuz yur black... or white... or blue" (yup, some dogs r blue, like the Blue Healer and others). We are all friendly and peaceful no matter what color or what breed each one is. Why do hoomans get so caught up in each others color or what country they or their ancesters come from? That is just DUMB, in my doggy opinion.

I live woof a hooman, a cat, a budgie bird, a parrot, a rat, a rabbit, and 5 chinchillas. The cat is new to our home and she is scared of me so she spits and growls if I come into the room, then runs away. This is the only unpeacefulness we have in the house, and I know that woof time this might get better. So, in this house, not only are color and breed not important, but species is overlooked too. We all live together in very near to total peace. Oh, Mom gets a little 'unpeaceful' when I steel stuff like her precious mixed nuts or a big bag of rat food, or when I get into the garbage and string it around the house as I eat what little bits I might find tasty... but even then we love each other and I just get put outside where I can't be bad.

I hope people can find a way to have peace all over the world, and that they can learn to not care about what color they each are, or where their parents or great grand parents or whoever like that were born. If they story in the Bible is right, then everyone is related cuz everyone came from Adam & Eve!! And whether that story is right or not, we are all created by God... we are ALL GOD's Children!! God loves us when we are black, or white, or yellow, or red and any other color cuz God Made EVERYTHING and EVERYONE!

Live in Peace.

Love from Reba Jane Rottenweiler
