A Beautiful Saturday Arfternoon

Hi everyone. I want to say thanks to all the peoples that left me comments lately. You all make this ol' dawg feel pretty good.

Yesterday, I had such fun. I gots a great surprise. Mom took me to town woof her in our truck (not the surprise) and we went to her friend Wendy's house to pick up her... and her DAWG! (yup, that's the surprise). Wendy has 2 German Shepard boy dogs, Steel and Shadow, but has to take 'em to the dog park one at a time so they don't act bad up there and beat up on other dogs. So, it was Shadow we took woof us. That was kinda confusing fur me cuz Mom 'Bean had a cat named Shadow fur way longer than she's had me. He just died a few weeks ago (see his pikture on my side bar), so it's kinda confusing to hear a dog called by my cat bruvers name. Anyway, he is only nearly 2 and I'm 9, so he's kinda young, but he is kinda cute too... fur a German Shepard boy anyway. But I digress.... So, Mom opens the tail gate and won't let me jump out the truck to play woof this dog and I didn't know what was goin' on. Then Wendy told him to get in the truck woof me. She had to tell him a couple times, then he did it... just jumped right in. Mom drove us all to the dog park and we had so much fun running and playing together. The only problem was he kept jumpin' on me... like he wanted to do IT woof me. WELL!!!! I don't do IT!! Never have and never will, so I find it sooooo aggravating when boy dogs try stuff like that woof me. There's no need fur that kinda rude behavior. Oooops, digressing again. So anyway, Mom & Wendy walked 'round the dog park fur two times, but Shadow and I put on a lot more 'miles' than they did, arf, arf, arf. When we got back into the truck, Shadow understood what was happenin' and jumped right in. When we got back to Wendy's him 'n me didn't want him to get out and me to stay in, so we tried real hard to get us both out, or both stay in together, but finally he had to go. The said we'll get to do it again soon tho.

Then Mom visited in the house fur a long time before we came home to our house.

The End.

Friday's Feast #23

Friday's Feast

Appetizer

What does the color dark green make you think of?

Grass. When my tummy doesn't feel good I eat green grass and it makes me puke up whatever is bothering me. It's a cool trick we dogs do.

Soup

How many cousins do you have?

I don't know how many dog cousins I might have... but I know I have 8 hooman cousins. My Mom 'Bean's nieces an' nephews.

Salad

On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being highest, how honest are you?

'Bout a 7. I never ever lie, but I guess being a thief counts against me. I steal food off the counter whenever I can and the other night Mom 'Bean was so tired that she left her bag of mixed nuts where I could get my lips on it. I ate every last one.

Main Course

Name something that is truly free.

Anything I can get my doggy lips on, arf, arf, arf.

Dessert

Using the letters in the word SPRING, write a sentence.

Sleep Peacefully In Nice Glen.

Suff Is Happening Here!!!

Mom `Bean goes to her Toastmasters meetings on Monday nights, and I`m not allowed to use the computer while she`s not here. This means I never get to play this Heads or Tails game. Tonight Mom is home cuz it`s Easter Monday and there is no Toastmasters. This might be the only time I get to play, but I`m gonna take advantage of it and play tonight. Arf!

Follow this link to read what Heads or Tails is about, or to find other players of the game.

Tonight, it`s HEADS and the word is SURPRISE!! Well, tonight I got a surprise, all right.

_________________________________

Guess what!! Mom `Bean just told me a surprise... that things are gonna change around here, and not just cuz of my new dog run that I told you about in my last post.

It turns out that Don and Angel (I`ve told you `bout them... Angel is a ShitZoo) who have been living here in our travel trailer for 4 months, are probably leaving. If he gets a job driving big truck they`ll be traveling all over in that truck and so will live in it mostly. And if he doesn`t get that job, then he`ll move away to where he used to live to look fur a new job there. Mom`s gonna move the travel trailer up onto this level of the yard and use it as a tack room fur her saddles and horsey stuff like that. That`s why my `now`run is gonna be made smaller and I`m getting the big new run.

Okay... so that`s cool news. But there`s more. Someone else is coming here woof his trailer and is putting it where Mom`s little trailer is now. He`s gonna live in his trailer and shower in our house like Don and Angel have been doing. And guess what!! Len has a Boxer puppy about one and a half years old. She`s named Unique. He was talking about leaving her in the trailer while he`s away working every day and Mom said no way can he do that to the poor dawg. She said he has to put her into my run woof me. I don`t know if I should be happy and excited, or if I should be scared, arf arf. You see, I turned nine in December, so I`m seven and a half years older than Unique is. I`ve got a lot of energy and I move around a lot, but a Boxer puppy could wear me right out... every day!!! I might have to beg Mom to let me in the house fur me to have some peace and rest after a bit.

So, what do you think about that fur a surprise... a Boxer puppy!!

MY NEW DOG RUN.... BARK!!!

Hi everyone. You should see what my Mom `Bean is going to do fur me. A few years ago, she built a chicken run up on the hill above my dog run, then she never quite finished it cuz she decided it wasn`t gonna be good fur them chickies. You see, the hawks were getting the chickens right out of the yard, or at least that`s what we think was happening to them cuz those bird brains were disappearing into thin air, so to put them up onto the hill would be like inviting the birds of prey to come dine here. Last fall Mom gave the last of the chickens away to new home for their own protection, arf, arf. So, now with a few changes it will work good fur me fur a bigger run... and those birds of prey better pray they don`t come too close to me. The run I have now will be make smaller, and steps put in to get me up the concrete retaining wall, and boy will I ever get exercise climbing up and down that steep hill, but wow I`ll have a great view of everything from up there. I`ll see way more than I can see from where my run is now.

My Woofenderful day!

I had a woofenderful day today. Mom took me woof her to church and some of her friends came out and petted me where I waited in the back of the truck, nice and safe inside the canopy. Then when Mom came out we went to a couple stores she had to go to. At the first one, she bought a big bowl for me to keep in the back of the truck woof me, and gave me water in it, but I wouldn't drink nothin' so Mom let me out fur a pee and poop, then I got back in and had a drink of water.

After the second store, Mom went and got a sandwich to eat, then we went up to the Dog Park and had a real good walk. We went three times around the park, and that's a lot of walkin' and playin' woof other dogs. It was woofenderful!! Now all I want to do is sleep. Good night.

Manic Monday - Drink

My DOGIC version of...

ImageChef.com Photo Frames

I saw something on the TV news tonight (hey, I watch what Mom watches) about St. Pat's Day and how hoomans drink lots of green stuff, like green beer and wine. Yuck. Just give me water any ol' day of the week.

Anyway, Mom's friend Jamey emailed her some stupid Irish jokes. She took and changed names and a few other words to make them 'genetic' so no one would get offended at 'racist' jokes. She posted 2 of 'em to her blog, then let me have the other 2 to share woof you here, ya hear? (Arf, arf, arf... that was a play on words).

Into a pub comes Joe, looking like he'd just been run over by a train. His arm is in a sling, his nose is broken, his face is cut and bruised and he's walking with a limp.

“What happened to you?" asks Mac, the bartender.
"Jamie Smith and me had a fight," says Joe.
"That little shit, Smith," says Sean, "He couldn't do that to you, he must have had something in his hand."
"That he did," says Joe, "a shovel is what he had, and a terrible lickin' he gave me with it."
"Well," says Mac, "you should have defended yourself, didn't you have something in your hand?"
“That I did," said Joe. "Mrs. Smith's breast, and a thing of beauty it was, but useless in a fight."

A man who had a little too much to drink is driving home from the city one night and, of course, his car is weaving violently all over the road. A cop pulls him over.
"So," says the cop to the driver, “where have ya been?"
"Why, I've been to the pub of course," slurs the drunk.
"Well," says the cop, "it looks like you've had quite a few to drink this evening."
"I did all right," the drunk says with a smile.
"Did you know," says the cop, standing straight and folding his arms across his chest, "that a few intersections back, your wife fell out of your car?"
"Oh, thank heavens," sighs the drunk. "For a minute there, I thought I'd gone deaf."

Mom says that if you don't like the jokes, just go drink some more green beer, cuz drinking lots of green beer makes everything funnier. (Hoomans.... sheeesh!)

Have a WOOFENDERFUL MANIC MONDAY

&

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY

My Mom loves her usb flash drives. She finds they work really great for an exterior hard drive, she stores all her photos on one of them so if the 'puter dies, she still has the photos. She also uses one of them a lot for taking information between her 2 computers, or one at home and one at church where she does volunteer work.

What's up now.

Whoof! Welcome to my blog. It has been a sad week and my Mom has had some dips down into deep depression. She doesn't even know what to say on our blogs now and this makes it hard for me to know what to say cuz I'm so connected to her. Yesterday she was so depressed it even scared her cuz she's 'been there' before and says it's a dark and dangerous place to go. The good news though is that she seems to be feeling a bit better today than she did yesterday. I think it's that one week anniversary since Shadow left us that kicked her in the butt. Thank God that's over though I dread the second week anniversary. I hope they get easier as they pass. On top of it, Mom's friend Art called yesterday wanting demanding his CDs back that he loaned Mom and he was not very friendly. He said for her to leave them with a friend of his and hung up before Mom could ask him if he's mad at her. He wanted a commitment that Mom wasn't ready to make so she thinks he's cut her out of his life.... and at a bad time for Mom to loose more.

Laptop

When Mom had to use her desk top computer she had to sit in the back room where there's only a little window and not a lot of natural light. That's where the desk is woof the big 'puter on it. Then she got herself a nice laptop and now she can sit in the living room where there's the TV and big windows that let in lots more light. And of course, there's me. When Mom is working on her 'puter and watching TV I lay on the floor near her and it's lots more comfortable on the carpet than it is on the hard floor in the back room. Also, Mom loves that she can take her 'puter all over the place woof her and work on it no matter where she is. She takes it to Nan's house, to her Spiritual Centre, to the dog park, all over that place. She even takes it to bed woof her sometimes. It's a good thing that she's so happy woof her laptop cuz it makes it so she's willing to do more 'data entry' work for me. My paws are way to big to type properly, so Mom is my 'secretary' as well as my maid, my showfur, my chef, well, you get the pikture.

Thank You All

My Mom and I thank each and every one of you that have come from the Blogesphere to visit us here and express your sympathy in our time of morning. We miss our Shadow so much, and your kind and loving words and purrrrs and purrrayers are such a great help to us. I keep looking for Shadow but I haven't seen him in the last few days and this confuses me. Mom said something about him being gone to the Rainbow Bridge, but I'm not quite sure what that means, or when he'll be back home woof us. He isn't in the bathroom eating and his dishes and litter box are even gone. He doesn't even come to bed woof Mom at night now and he always came to bed woof Mom. Is that why Mom is so sad now? I think so.

Mom said we'll come visit all of you that have left the nice messages fur us her. You've all really touched her heart. It will take a few days, maybe more, but you can all expect a visit from us. Thanks again.

Sad Update on Shadow

Shadow
April 28, 1991 - March 6, 2008

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that my beloved Shadow didn't make it through the night. I got a call this morning from the vet office and they told me he had passed away during the night. I was not surprised and had I looked at the clock earlier I am sure I could tell you the exact time he went. You see, I woke up during the night feeling a great emptiness, a real feeling of being alone. I think that I felt him leave his body and my life.

I know I will never forget my 'little man', and will always love him. He was my 'grand kitten' who became oh so much more. See what I wrote yesterday. I must go now and start digging his grave, oh how I wish I had someone to help me with this job, and to hold me in his arms while I cry my heart out... and there is no one I can reach out to for this kind of support, so off I do to dig and cry alone. I will try to write more about Shadow later on, or tomorrow.

Thank you to Riley & Tiki for your comments and support. Your words are appreciated.

Update on Shadow

Just wanted to let you know I had to take Shadow (my beloved cat) to the vet today. He has to stay for the night, and maybe tomorrow night too. It appears that his kidneys are shutting down. He is dehydrated so is on IV fluids. The plan is to rehydrate him as well as flush the toxins out that the kidneys haven't been able to, and hope the kidneys will start to work properly again. The vet said IF this helps Shadow, it MAY extend his life, but is not a cure for him. It may be that his kidneys are just worn out. She said he could have 3 days, 3 weeks, or as much as a year or two, there is no way to know.

I picked his mother, Smoothedge, out of the litter when she was less than 24 hours old. When she was pregnant, I used to sit here and rub the little lumps in her tummy, petting her unborn babies. I remember the night she gave birth. I came home after a night out dancing and Smoothedge met me at the door. She was yowling and had these huge lumps sticking out of her body and moving around inside her. She`d yowl at me then head towards the box I`d given her for having the babies in, come back to me and yowl, etc etc. I got my boots off and followed her, then she went to the box and started giving birth right away. She had waited for me. That was April 28, 1991... nearly 17 years ago. I`m not sure how I`ll sleep without him on my bed with me... sigh.

At this time, the only `good`thing I can see here is that it`s spring, so the ground is thawing and I will soon be able to bury him with Smoothedge, D-O-G and Bronx in the `Pet Cemetery`in my orchard. This is a very sad time and I`m not sure how I`ll get through it, but I know I will.

I'll keep you updated.

Life Stuff

Hi. This evening I was reading Mom's email she sent to a friend. You'd be surprised what you can find in the Sent folder. Oh, it's not that we're snooping, it's that it's our job to know what's up woof our Mom in order to protect her and to keep her happy. So, I thought you might like to read what she wrote about us.

I'm rather concerned about my cat Shadow who will be 17 on April 28 this year. He has taken to not eating as of late. All his life he has 'had' to have his milk every night before bed, and this winter he suddenly stopped drinking it. He would still yowl and demand it, but then leave it in the bowl after a sniff. I started giving him raw meat and he loved it for a time, then stopped eating that too. I usually don't buy canned cat food, don't believe in feeding it, but I even broke down and bought him a can of that. The first night he woofed it down, then after that refused to eat any more of it. Through all this he always still ate his crunchies, now I've noticed the last few days that the crunchie level in the bowl does not seem to be going down. I think he is not eating those any more too. He is still drinking water, thank God. Today, before I left for town, I opened a can of salmon and gave his some juice and meat from that, desperate to do whatever it takes to get my 'man' to eat. This evening I was happy to see all that gone, tho there hadn't been a lot in that bowl. I just gave him a bunch more and he is eating it. He's so skinny. I'm going to have to find a way to get him to a vet I guess. It's just so pricey to do so here now. Almost $60 just for the exam, then add a bunch more if they find anything to be done. I called to day and asked how much to get my dog vaccinated... because she hasn't had any shots since she was a puppy and is now 9 years of age, I have to get 3 right away, for parvo and such... add to that the one for kennel cough and one for rabies and I'm looking at $239.53. After that $96.92 for each of the next 2 years and $127.79 the next year (rabies only have to be given every 3rd year). Now I remember why I don't give my animals shots. At one time I always kept the shots up to date.... several animals later, I've never had a health problem with not getting their shots done. My animals live long lives unless hit by cars on this highway. A friend is talking about maybe taking me to Mexico next winter, and if that was to happen, Reba would be going along too, so would have to have shots for that. And now, perhaps I am babbling... that is pretty much a sign that it is past my bed time, haha.

I guess I better find a way to help pay fur my vaccinations and maybe if I chase Shadow some more he'll get hungry and eat more, or he'll have to go to the critter doctor. He is so skinny lately that he's like a skeleton woof fur pulled over it. I know Mom will come unglued when her furry little man goes on to the Rainbow Bridge. She used to pet him before he was even born, then when his birth mother had him and his brothers, she refused to let them out until Mom was there woof her. Moonbeam, Shadow's birth Mom, was before my time here. I know Mom loved her lots too, and loosing her to the highway was very hard on Mom. But enough of that... it's time fur a good, long nap.
